Organic rolled oats

This ancient grain forms one of the three foundational ingredients of our Overnight Breakfast.

Nutrient profile

The protein found in rolled oats is equivalent in quality to other proteins derived from eggs, meat, and milk. Oats contain the protein avenin which is similar to gluten but safe for those who are gluten intolerant.

Rolled oats are also an excellent source of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals such as iron, magnesium, potassium and zinc. Oats also contain a more soluble form of fiber than other grains and for that reason lead to slower digestion and appetite suppression. Brave uses only organic gluten-free rolled oats in our Overnight Breakfast.

The oat grain is made up of three parts

1. The outer inedible husk which is removed before processing

2. The remaining seed portion is called the groat 

3. The bran is the inner next inside layer which is rich in fiber and healthy fats, proteins and calories but does not contain the center endosperm of the grain from which cut and rolled oats are made.

Steel-cut oats are the result of the groat being spun and shattered or they are mechanically cut.  To make rolled oats, the groat is spun and then lightly roasted to retain the flavor and shelf life. The oats are then crushed between rollers resulting in rolled oats that are less flattened than the thinner instant oat varieties.
